What you can do

Free, and staying that way

Every tool here is free and needs no account: single videos, bulk lists, playlists and whole channels. A single run handles up to 10 videos, and collections can be resumed, so a long playlist is a few runs rather than one impossible one.

What this tool does not do

Transcripts are read from the captions YouTube already publishes for a video. This tool does not download video or audio files, and it does not run speech recognition — so a video with no captions of any kind cannot be transcribed here.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?
Yes. Everything is free and needs no account: single videos, bulk lists, playlists and whole channels. One run handles up to 10 videos.
Does it download video files?
No. It retrieves the captions YouTube publishes for a video and lets you copy or download those as text or subtitle files. It does not download video or audio.
What if a video has no captions?
Then there is nothing to retrieve. This tool does not perform speech recognition, so a video with no captions at all cannot be transcribed here.
Which languages are supported?
Whichever captions the video has. Human-written caption tracks are preferred over automatic ones, and the language menu lists every track the video actually carries. Machine translation of an existing track into English is also available.
Diagnostics — when a video will not load

Runs each retrieval method against one video and reports exactly what YouTube said. The fastest way to tell a blocked network apart from a video that simply has no captions.
